Welding Helmets

Gaynor Borade
Welding Helmets are the configurations that assist the process of welding where the fabrication procedure results in the targeted coalescence of metals or thermo-plastics.
The process of welding is a technique that enables the 'bonding' of metallic or thermo-plastic material. It involves the creation of a 'weld puddle', or a filler of molten material, to culminate in the resultant 'weld', or joining of the materials.
Sometimes, the procedure involves the use of pressure along with the generation of heat. On account of the heat and pressure exerted, in addition to the body proximity to the weld, the entire operation demands the use of specially crafted gear, until completed. The welding gear comprises special headgear, due to the need for close observation of the process.
There are a number of branded and locally designed welding helmets easily available. Most of them are designed to accommodate lenses of different kinds and other add-ons to the existent headgear.
The helmets can also be successfully outfitted with the latest alternate introductions within the dedicated market. The base material used to make these helmets is necessarily heat resistant and light weight.
The headgear, though uncomfortable for amateurs in the beginning, protects the welders well, while on-job. The welding helmets ensure complete safety measure and most of the industry specific applications adhere to strict quality control measures.
The flip lens technology recently introduced enables the welder to switch lens modes for better vision. The flip lens option assures the welder of the desired precision for any type of welding job.
The welding helmets now marketed are real value for the investment made. As per the specifications and operations within an industry, they may be extensively or relatively used. They are also used for individual and small scale jobs.
Irrespective of the quantity and duration of welding, the fully adjustable headbands and welding filter, enable the welder to preset the gear according to the job at hand. The filters are also accessible in a number of hues.
The add-on feature in the form of lugs, holds the magnifying lens in place, via a specially designed holder. This feature adds quality to the overall performance and end result.
There are automatic features too that enable the welder to benefit from a larger viewing area. The enlarged viewing area gives the welder a better view of the job at hand. The battery powered lens technology in the automatic welding helmet is solar powered and hence, it requires no charging. This results in the subsequent long life of the gear.
The lens is designed to respond to a very low DC inverter and arcs to meet the demands for arc sensing applications. The arcs are usually 5 amps or less and the darkening reaction time frame is lens specific. The automatic welding helmets have analog controls for concise adjustments to the gear.
The features like shade control and lens sensitivity in the automated welding helmets are internally controlled. The helmets feature a circuitry that is an 'auto-off' operation. These well-balanced designs come complete with replacement lens shields, outside and inside.
The automated and manually controlled welding helmets also have anti spatter lens covers to protect the welder from any untoward instance of a 'splutter' of the weld puddle. Unlike brazing and soldering, it is important to keep in mind that welding involves more heat and precision.
It is very important to adhere to industry-specific safety regulations and remember that the purpose of the gear is first protection and then job enhancement.
