Smart devices are sold on the basis of reliability. But these devices can often work abruptly as you may have experienced. Many problems crop up when you have multiple smart home devices. Different brands use different protocols and have varying degrees of honesty. This makes it tough to construct a harmonious smart home where everything is working fine.
The solution is paying a smart home company huge amount to install and maintain a unified home system.

Not everyone has that kind of budget to spend on a smart home. Most individuals choose to add separate devices slowly over time.

It is affordable, but sometimes, when you have acquired various smart home devices, it is troublesome to make them work together.
You could use a home hub such as Wink or Samsung SmartThings, but those can be unsettled. The problem is that all devices are not compatible with them, requiring you to install bridges or additional hubs that of course mean spending money.

Using IFTTT

If This Then That – is the online platform that brings several gadgets and services together.

The beauty with IFTTT is that it does not care what communicating protocol your devices are using, be it Z-Wave or Zigbee.

Till the device is connected to a WiFi and has a service on IFTTT, you can control it through the platform.
If your smart home is proving tedious and challenging to operate, IFTTT can make things smoother.

It is easy to use. You do not have to configure anything or do complex settings or programming.

You just select which two devices or services you want to connect and establish a trigger and actions.
IFTTT uses conditional applications called Applets. If a condition is fulfilled, then there is a specified action taken.

That may sound restricted and simple, but you would be surprised how useful it could be in a large house with heaps of smart gadgets.

Creating an Applet

There are hundreds of services on IFTTT such as Nest, ecobee, iRobot, Samsung, Philips Hue, LG, and many others.

So no matter what smart devices you have in your home, there is a good chance you may access it through IFTTT.

To start using IFTTT, visit their site or download their Smartphone app.
Make sure your devices are on the WIFI network before you begin.

All you need to do is create a new applet or use one which already exists.

To make an applet, you search for the support you want like iRobot Vacuum Cleaner or Nest Thermostat. This is the device for which you’ll define a trigger.
After setting up the trigger, search another service for which you will specify an action.

For example, you can decide a trigger for your Roomba such as Task Completed. This means the robot vacuum has completed cleaning.

Then, pick a notification service and set the action which in this case is currently getting notified when Task Completed trigger fires.
You've made a new applet. You'll get a notification every time The Roomba vacuum finishes the cleanup.

You can make this kind of - If This Then That connection with any two services or devices.
