You may be calling someone you hardly know, and are not sure about giving them your number. You even may be calling a business company or a service provider for some information, and do not wish to disclose your number. Blocking your number from their caller ID is a good way to avoid those unsolicited marketing or follow-up calls.

How Do You Block Your Number When Calling Someone

You have to follow simple ways for this procedure. There two ways to do the same - you can either permanently or temporarily hide your number.

Selective Blocking

Also known as per-call blocking, it means temporary blocking of your number. This method will help you to block your name or number from being displayed on another person's caller ID. This blocking duration is for the single call that is made. In order to do so, you need to dial *67, before you dial someone's number.
But, before the call is made, make sure that you try dialing *67 before your own residence or office number, in order to check whether it works. If your number does not come up on the caller ID, it means this method may be successful. You should redial *67 before the dialed number.

Complete Blocking

Also known as per-line blocking, this ensures permanent blocking of your phone number. There are a few States, which help you to block each and every call that you make. By this method, you can permanently privatize your number.
In order to do so, you need to call your network provider and request for a 'line block'. When this service is active, your number will never appear on any caller ID. In case you want few selective people to be able to view your number, then you need to dial *82 before dialing their number. This will help you to unblock the number for only that receiver.

Exceptions

Keep in mind that there are certain exceptions, from which your number won't be blocked under any circumstances. These include toll-free numbers like 800, 866, 888, and 900. These call receivers may be able to identify your number using Automatic Number Identification (ANI) technology.
Also, your number won't be blocked from emergency numbers like 911. Rather, your number, as well as your address will be displayed when you call the police, fire department, or ambulance services.
It is better to use the *67 method to block your number from few people. But, if you want your number to remain private, then 'line block' service is the perfect one for you. Just undertake these solutions when calling someone, and turn invisible for sometime.
