5 Industries That Use Laser Technology

Austin Winder
Laser technology has been adopted by many industries for countless uses around the globe. Lasers are routinely being developed and innovated to bring even more benefits to these cutting-edge industries.
In this story, we'll show you how useful lasers are, while bringing you five key industries that use them for everyday production and innovation.

1. Aerospace

This is a huge industry that incorporates military jets, commercial airlines, transportation jets, private jets and spacecraft.
Because of the size and scope of the industry, it goes without saying that they require efficient and fast production times. It's also hugely important that safety is put at the absolute forefront of the industry. After all, they're putting people into the air in large tin cans.
Lasers are utilized to weld various metal together that create the parts of features of each aircraft. One of the biggest benefits of using laser technology is that they are able to weld dissimilar metals together. Even if the metals don't possess the same qualities, lasers make the weld secure and flawless.
Another major laser use in the aerospace industry is drilling thru-holes, or cooling holes, that keep parts of each craft cool and stop overheating.

2. Automotive

This industry has a lot of similarities to the aerospace industry in the way production works. In terms of overall product output, nearly 100 million automobiles were manufactured in the year 2016.
Because of the huge demand numbers, the automotive industry is all about high efficiency, high production and high profits, all while maintaining a pristine safety standard.
Laser are used in a similar way that the aerospace industry uses them. Various parts of each automobile must be welded together in a safe and permanent way. Lasers are also used to create cut parts that make up the core style elements of a vehicle's body.

3. Batteries

With the ridiculous number of electronic devices we now use, the battery industry has seen exponential growth in recent years. Did you know that about 3 billion used batteries are thrown away each year in America alone? This doesn't even include rechargeable batteries or batteries that are built-in to phones and laptops.
Lasers are the perfect solution for this industry. They're able to work at insanely minute sizes with ultra-small parts, joining the dissimilar metals that make up a battery's components. They also don't cause any heat damage to the battery's surrounding parts.

4. Dental

Lasers have completely revolutionized the way the dental industry operates. The biggest impact lasers have had on the industry is the way in which equipment and tools used for surgeries are manufactured.
Manufacturing these tools involves laser marking, laser welding and additive manufacturing. Lasers allow for welding together parts of dentistry tools while keeping them sterilized.
Laser marking is also a big part of the industry. This ensures that all dentistry tools are traceable and marked appropriately. Additive manufacturing is used for purposes such as 3D teeth printing.

5. Scientific

Lasers are often used for the purposes of research, such as studying how they can be utilized more effectively in the military sector. Lasers are also used for drilling, which is a process with a wide-range of uses. Everything from the building computer chips to excavations can be aided with laser technology.

Laser Technology Continues to Grow

As we enter into a new decade, you can rest assured that laser technology will only continue to grow in our industries. These are five industries that are already ahead of the curve.
